Angela Braly Biography

From June 1, 2007, to August 2012, Ms. Angela F. Braly was the Chief Executive Officer and President of WellPoint Inc., a parent company of Blue Cross of California, Inc. From March 1, 2010, to August 28, 2012, Ms. Braly was Chairman of the Board of WellPoint Inc. Since January 1999, Ms. Braly has worked for RightChoice Managed Care, Inc. as Corporate Secretary, Executive Vice President, and General Counsel. Since April 1, 2005, she has been an Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Public Affairs Officer at Wellpoint Inc. She was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She was in charge of the legal, corporate secretary, government relations, and corporate communications departments, as well as the Wellpoint Inc. Federal Employee Program. Since December 20, 2004, she has been the CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri. From August 2003 until April 2005, Ms. Braly was the Chief Executive Officer and President of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri (BCBSMo). She was in charge of overseeing all elements of BCBSMo's operations as well as developing strategies to satisfy consumer demands. She became general counsel for RightCHOICE Managed Care Inc., then the parent business of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri, in January 1999, where she also oversaw government relations. Ms. Braly was essential in settling a number of tough legal challenges impacting Wellpoint Inc. while at RightCHOICE. She was a major figure in the legal strategy that led to a settlement with Missouri authorities and the establishment of The Missouri Foundation for Health. She worked as a partner in the St. Louis legal firm Lewis, Rice & Fingersh, L.C. before joining Blue Cross in 1999. Since December 8, 2009, she has served as a director of Procter & Gamble Co. She is a member of America's Health Insurance Plans' Board of Directors. From June 1, 2007, through August 28, 2012, she was a director of Wellpoint Inc. She was named one of the 25 Most Influential Women in Business by the St. Louis Business Journal in 2000. Ms. Braly graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
