Intel Corporation's Senior Advisor is Andrew S. Grove. Grove previously served as Intel Corporation's Chairman of the Board from May 1997 until May 2005. He was the company's CEO from 1987 to 1998, and President from 1979 to 1997. Prior to co-founding Intel with Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore in 1968, he was the Assistant Director of Research and Development at Fairchild Semiconductor. Andrew S. Grove was born in 1936 in Budapest, Hungary. He earned a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from City College of New York in 1960 and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1963. Following graduation, he joined Fairchild Semiconductor's Research and Development Laboratory, eventually rising to the position of Assistant Director of Research and Development. Dr. Grove was a founding member of Intel Corporation in July 1968. He was elected President of the company in 1979, and Chief Executive Officer in 1987. He was named Chairman and CEO in May 1997, and he surrendered his CEO post in May 1998. He stood down as Chairman in May 2005 and continues to serve as Senior Advisor. Dr. Grove has authored over 40 technical publications and is the holder of many patents on semiconductor devices and technologies. For six years, he taught a graduate course in semiconductor device physics at the University of California, Berkeley. He is presently a lecturer at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, where he teaches a course called Strategy and Action in the Information Processing Industry. Dr. Grove was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree by City College of New York in 1985, an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree by Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1989, and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Harvard University (2000). His first book, Physics and Technology of Semiconductor Devices, is utilized at several of the country's top institutions. High Output Management (1983), One-on-One With Andy Grove (1987), Only the Paranoid Survive (1996), and Strategic Dynamics: Concepts and Cases, co-authored with Robert A. Burgelman, are among his management books (2005). Swimming Across, his autobiography, was released in 2001. He has written pieces for Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times, and he has a weekly management column that was published by numerous newspapers, as well as a management column for Working Woman magazine. Dr. Grove was named an IEEE Fellow and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He received the IEEE Engineering Leadership Recognition award in 1987, as well as the AEA Medal of Achievement (1993). In 1997, he earned Industry Week's Technology Leader of the Year award, CEO magazine's CEO of the Year award, and Time magazine's Man of the Year honor. Dr. Grove was recognized Distinguished Executive of the Year by the Academy of Management in 1998, and he was awarded the IEEE 2000 Medal of Honor in 2000. In 2001, he was honored with the Strategic Management Society's Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Grove was named the Wharton School of Business and the Nightly Business Report's Most Influential Business Person in the Last Twenty-Five Years in 2004. He earned the Ernest C. Arbuckle Award from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business the same year. He has worked at UCSF as a Patient Advocate and as the National Chair of the Campaign for UCSF. He served on the Prostate Cancer Foundation's board of directors. Dr. Grove is a consultant for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. He is the president of the Grove Foundation, a private charitable organization that supports Parkinson's disease research.
