Following high school graduation, Amanda Seyfried enrolled at Fordham University in New York, only to put her education on hold when she was cast as Karen Smith, the ditsy member of the Plastics, in the hit high school comedy "Mean Girls," which also starred Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams. Her take on the loveable airhead role made Seyfried a major standout in the film. "Mean Girls" became such a hit that Seyfried could have gone after lighthearted roles that were similar to the dumb blonde routine she nailed in that film; instead, she went after intricate, character-driven projects, including a leading role in "Nine Lives," an interwoven story about nine women that also starred Robin Wright Penn and Academy-Award winner Holly Hunter.

After her appearances on the big screen, Seyfried returned to television, playing Lilly Kane -- the title character's murdered best friend -- on "Veronica Mars." The actress' role involved flashbacks and visions, and was often compared to the tragic Laura Palmer character from "Twin Peaks." Meanwhile, the actress also appeared in the films "Boogie Woogie," and "Jennifer's Body," a comedic horror flick from "Juno" screenwriter, Diablo Cody. Following a starring turn in Atom Egoyan's thriller, "Chloe," she starred in the adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' tearjerker "Dear John," in which she played a young Savannah woman who exchanges letters with a soldier (Channing Tatum) she fell in love with before he was shipped off to war. Meanwhile, she joined William H. Macy, Judy Greer and Jeremy Piven for the big screen adaptation of the long-running comic, "Marmaduke."

In 2012, Seyfried starred as Cosette in the blockbuster adaptation "Les Miserables," which won three Oscars. She then voiced Mary Katherine in the animated feature "Epic" in 2013. Seyfried will next be seen in "TED 2." She is currently appearing on stage in "The Way to Get By."
