Allen Stone Biography

Allen Stone is a 25 year old singer who hails from the small town of Chewelah, Washington. The New York Times has compared Allen Stone’s socially conscious music to the likes of Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. Meanwhile, USA Today has referred to Allen Stone as “a pitch-perfect powerhouse.” Stone is a preachers’s kid and started off singing in church like many popular soul singers. Protected from secular songs and groomed in gospel music, Allen didn't discover soul music until his teenage years which led to him collecting classic albums from the 60's and 70's. Soul music from that era was a huge part of a cultural movement compared to the dancing kind of music played at clubs. According to stone, “That's where my inspiration comes from.” He was also tutored by folk records of the era. Stone exposes some of the negative things from his era in his album Contact High. It talks about the impact technology has on relationships and the song Unaware takes a look into the current economic crisis. In the past four years, Stone has developed his sound the old fashioned way and toured the country in a van with his small band, performing at any small club that would grace his presence. In October 2011, his self-titled album through his own stickystones label was released digitally and his shows have continued to sell out from coast to coast. His self titled album entered the Top 5 charts of iTunes' R&B/Soul and jumped into Billboard's Heatseekers Top 10 chart. He made his first national television appearanc on Conan after the music booker viewed a YouTube video of Allen performing Unaware in his mother's living room. Other on screen performances where witnessed on Live from Daryl's House, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call with Carson Daly. Billboard, Esquire and CNN described Stone as “an artist to watch.” This was before he got signed to a record label. Later, Stone got signed to ATO Records.
