Alex Witt Biography

On Saturdays and Sundays, Alex Witt anchors the MSNBC show "Weekends with Alex Witt." Witt has been an anchor for MSNBC since January 1999, covering both the daytime and evening hours. During the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections, Witt traveled throughout the country on the campaign trail. She also covered the last week of the 2003 California gubernatorial election, following Arnold Schwarzenegger around the state. Witt aired from the World Trade Center in the aftermath of the September 11th terror attacks on America, and he has continued to monitor the fight on terrorism in the Middle East and the war in Iraq. On the tenth anniversary of the attacks, she also aired from the World Trade Center. Alex has presented the MSNBC Adventurer series as well as a series of prime time special programs in the aftermath of the Asian tsunami. She covered the 2005 wedding of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker Bowles live from Windsor, England, and the commemorations honoring the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana's death in 2007 from London outside Kensington Palace. Witt has also provided reporting to NBC Nightly News for the critically acclaimed “Making a Difference” series. Witt came to NBC after working as a reporter for WNYW-TV in New York City, where she covered topics all across the city. Prior to that, Witt worked as an anchor, reporter, and producer for numerous California stations, including as a field producer for NBC News' Today in the Burbank bureau. Witt is a Los Angeles native who attended the University of Southern California, where she majored in journalism and international relations, as well as the famous Marlborough School for Girls. She has been a lifelong Dodgers fan as well as a USC football enthusiast. She also performs in a pop singing ensemble and has been honored to sing the national anthem at many professional sporting events around the country. Witt is the proud mother of two children, and she spends the majority of her time away from work with her family, globetrotting with them whenever possible.
