Alexander Yakovenko is ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United Kingdom. Previously, he was the Russian deputy foreign minister in charge of multilateral diplomacy, including the U.N. Security Council, and international economic relations from 2005 to 2011. A career diplomat, Yakovenko was the head of the Russian delegation at the international space station negotiations from 1993 to 1998.
He graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1976 and holds a doctorate in international law. He is also the author of a number of books on foreign policy.
