Alejandro González Iárritu is a filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and composer from Mexico. The Revenant and Birdman are two of his most well-known films. Amores Perros (2000), 21 Grams (2003), Babel (2006), Biutiful (2010), Birdman, and The Revenant (2015) are among his six feature films, all of which have won critical praise and many Academy Award nominations. He has been nominated for four Academy Awards. For Birdman, he won the Oscars for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture in 2015. In 2016, he won the award for Best Director for The Revenant for the second time. After Alfonso Cuarón in 2014, González Iárritu is the second Mexican director to win both the Academy Award for Best Director and the Directors Guild of America Award for Best Director. He's also the first Mexican filmmaker to receive Cannes' Prix de la mise en scene, or Best Director Award (2006). He will serve as the Jury President at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, making him the first Mexican to do so.
