Adrian Weller Biography

Adrian Weller is a machine learning principal research fellow at the University of Cambridge. He is interested in machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as its applications and societal consequences, such as scalability, dependability, interpretability, fairness, privacy, ethics, safety, and finance. Weller is the AI Programme Director at The Alan Turing Institute (the UK's national data science and AI institute), where he is also a Turing Fellow directing work on safe and ethical AI. He is a principal research fellow at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI), where he leads the Trust and Transparency project; a Darwin College research fellow; and an advisor to the Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) and the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER). He is a member of many boards of directors, including the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation (CDEI). He is a member of the UNESCO Ad Hoc Expert Group on the Ethics of AI and co-director of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) initiative on Human-centric Machine Learning. Previously, he held top finance roles. He is still an angel investor and counselor.
