Adam Keefe Horovitz, often known as Ad-Rock or King Ad-Rock, is a rapper, musician, and actor from the United States. He is most known for being a member of the Beastie Boys, a hip-hop group. Kathleen Hanna, a singer, and feminist activist is his wife. Horovitz began his musical career as a member of the Young and the Useless, a punk rock band that frequently collaborated with the Beastie Boys. Beastie Boys guitarist John Berry left the band in 1982, and Horovitz took his place. At the time, he was just 16 years old. The Beastie Boys' music evolved from a hardcore punk band to a more hip-hop-focused group once Horovitz joined the group. Def Jam signed the band, and their debut album, Licensed to Ill, was released in 1986. The album was a commercial smash hit, with six hit songs. Seven more albums followed, and by 2010, the Beastie Boys had sold 22 million albums in the US and 40 million globally. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted the Beastie Boys in 2012. In addition to his work with the Beastie Boys, Horovitz uses the moniker 41 Small Stars to remix a variety of songs for other artists. He is a member of Bridget Everett's backup band, The Tender Moments, which is headquartered in New York. Horovitz has also appeared in a number of films and television series. Tim 'Chino' Doolan in Lost Angels, Sam in Roadside Prophets, Repulski in Godspeed, Fletcher in While We're Young, and Nick in Golden Exits are just a few of his roles.
