Abdul-Rehman Malik Biography

Abdul-Rehman Malik is London-based journalist and educator. Formerly a contributing editor at Q-News a pioneering Muslim current affairs magazine he is currently programmes manager for the Radical Middle Way a community-led initiative that encourages critical civic participation and promotes public service mercy and social justice amongst young British Muslims. He is currently managing RMW’s international work in Sudan Indonesia and Pakistan.
A Canadian by birth Abdul-Rehman was a columnist on religious affairs for one of Canada’s leading national dailies The Toronto Star from 1998 to 2003. An experienced educator and activist teaching history and dramatic arts he began working as a freelance journalist attached to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in 2001 and his radio documentary entitled “Ramadan at Ground Zero” - a look at New York’s Muslim community in the aftermath of 9/11 - was nominated for a prestigious Peabody Award.
A long-time local and national community activist he was founding chair of the Ihya Foundation a Toronto-based educational and advocacy initiative formalised after the 9/11 tragedy. Abdul-Rehman also served on the board of the Urban Alliance on Race Relations. He holds a BA Hons in Political Theory and Middle East and Islamic history and B.Ed in Teaching History and Politics from the University of Toronto.
