Aaron Sklar Biography

Since 1997, Aaron Sklar has been associated with different IDEO locations (San Francisco, London and currently Palo Alto). He has worked on a range of projects that investigate the link between people and the environment we interact with, from cochlear implants to bank accounts, and even a rocket to the moon, all with human-centered design as the focus point. Two areas of concentration have arisen throughout the years: sustainability and wellbeing. Aaron has been involved in a wide range of client initiatives that have resulted in the continuous growth of IDEO's wellness perspective. His early research on a variety of healthcare initiatives, including diabetes treatment and cardiac monitoring devices, has evolved into a wider knowledge of people's participation with their own well-being. Complementary studies in acupuncture, as well as a global study effort into cold and allergy treatments in many cultures, have fueled his desire for a comprehensive knowledge of people's needs. Food consumption and daily routines are of special importance since they constitute the majority of an individual's wellbeing experience. Aaron has also worked on a number of initiatives relating to sustainable development. He enjoys uncovering the intricate linkages between the long-term viability of a commercial enterprise, the long-term viability of communities of people interacting with an offering, and the long-term viability of the planet. Aaron has assisted IDEO in focusing on the SocialCycle ― understanding the requirements of people at each step of a product's life cycle – by introducing the human viewpoint to lifecycle analysis. Aaron has a bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science and a master's degree in Human Factors from UC San Diego, as well as a master's degree in Human Factors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His time at IDEO provided him with the expertise he needed to succeed in human-centered design while also pursuing the wider aim of humanity-centered design.
