Pioneering Mexican-American Journalist to Deliver Insights on Navigating Recent Shifts in Technology with Integrity and Intent

The McAllen Economic Development Corporation, the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, and the City of McAllen announced that John Quiñones, Emmy award-winning journalist and host of ABC’s “What Would You Do?” will deliver the keynote for the 2nd annual MXLAN International Economic Summit on March 6, 2026, at the McAllen Convention Center.

Quiñones is a proud Texas native, raised in San Antonio by Mexican-American parents, overcoming significant challenges, including migrant farm work as a child, to pursue journalism. Inspired at age 12, he earned a degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and began his career in local news before joining ABC News in 1982. Over a fifty-plus-year career, he has served as a correspondent for “20/20”, “Nightline”, and “Good Morning America”, covering major stories on immigration, social justice, and human rights. Since 2008, he has hosted the acclaimed hidden-camera series “What Would You Do?”, which tests public reactions to ethical dilemmas. Quiñones has won seven Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, and other honors for his impactful reporting.
