Abortion specialist Dr. Willie J. Parker is an OB/GYN who supports reproductive justice. He attended Berea College in Kentucky and went on to earn degrees from the Harvard School of Public Health, the University of Iowa College of Medicine, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Michigan. Dr. Parker, a former medical director of Planned Parenthood Metropolitan Washington, DC, is currently a provider of abortion care for women in AL, MS, PA, GA, and IL. She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and has received training in preventive medicine and epidemiology from the Centers for Disease Control. He is the medical expert plaintiff in the federal complaint that the U.S. Supreme Court has requested to hear in order to keep Mississippi's sole abortion clinic open. Through lobbying, the provision of contraception and abortion services, and men's reproductive health, his work focuses on violence against women, sexual assault prevention, and reproductive health rights. In addition to serving as the board chair of Physicians for Reproductive Health, he also serves on the boards of URGE and The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, the United Nations Office for Human Rights recently recognized him as one of twelve women's human rights champions. In addition, he has won numerous honors including the Margaret Sanger Award, given by Planned Parenthood, the "Champions of Choice" Award by NARAL, the nation's first and oldest organization promoting abortion rights, the George Tiller, MD, Abortion Provider Award by Physicians for Reproductive Health, and the Personal PAC Leadership award.
