A young Maasai named Richard Turere lives on the edge of a national park with rhinos, giraffes, buffalo, and lions in the Kenyan savanna's remoteness. Since he was nine years old, Richard has had the distinction of caring for his father's cattle while also tinkering with electronics in his spare time. Richard took apart a few home appliances, learned how to repair them, and then he began inventing. He developed further innovations for his neighbors after fitting fans for his parents' house with pieces from salvaged cars and other junkyard materials. He is famous for creating "lion lights," a fence composed of inexpensive components (solar charging cells, flashlight parts), which efficiently and swiftly chase lions away from his father's cattle. He is currently 13 years old. Richard aspires to work as an aerospace engineer.
