She is a journalist and one of the nation's most esteemed thought leaders in the fields of health and health policy. She also provides on-air analysis of health-related topics for the PBS NewsHour. Dentzer frequently contributes as a guest commentator on NPR programs including "This American Life" and "The Diane Rehm Show." Dentzer served as the editor-in-chief of Health Affairs, the top journal for health policy in the country, from May 2008 to April 2013. During her tenure, the journal underwent significant change, going from a bimonthly academic publication to a highly readable, topical monthly journal and online publication with more than 120 million page views annually. Dentzer worked as an on-air journalist on health and health policy for the PBS NewsHour before joining the magazine, where she received multiple honors for her contributions (the unit was supported by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation). Dentzer worked as the top economics correspondent, an economics columnist for US News & World Report, and a senior writer for Newsweek before joining the NewsHour. The Nieman Fellowship for Journalists at Harvard University and the US-Japan Leadership Program Fellowship offered by the Japan Society of New York is only two of the fellowships that Dentzer has won. In addition, Dentzer serves on the International Rescue Committee's Board of Overseers. This nonprofit organization helps displaced people and refugees all around the world.
