Steve faced a terrible obstacle in 1983, just as his baseball career was getting off: self-doubt and overwhelming fear. It was the result of a mental block he had acquired earlier in the season, and he was on the edge of losing his career and childhood goal in front of a national television audience at the age of twenty-three.

Steve describes the actions he took to face and conquer this issue. After that year, Steve went on to play for 18 years, winning two World Series and becoming a mental health advocate. He also appeared on ESPN Prime Time and FOX Sports Prime Time.

After retiring from baseball in 1994, Steve continued to convey his passion for the game by providing analysis on ESPN and serving as a Major League baseball commentator for Fox Sports' Prime Time. Steve also has a long list of theatrical credits.

He has appeared as a guest on a variety of television series, including Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Naked Truth, Good Morning America, Howard Stern, Hannity and Combs, and Who's the Boss? He played himself on The Simpsons and appeared as a guest on Late Night with David Letterman.

He landed a recurring part on Aaron Spelling's Sunset Beach and a supporting role in Ground Control alongside Keifer Sutherland. He had an article about personal responsibility and self-reliance published in the WALL STREET JOURNAL. The President of the United States commended this piece for its open and intelligent insights about character development in our youngsters.

Steve was born on January 29, 1960 in Sacramento, California, and has lived in Northern California his whole life, always returning to his off-season house after baseball season ended. Growing up in the midst of a five-sibling brood nurtured his competitive spirit and ambition to succeed.

Steve is a longtime athlete who holds a black belt in Shotokan karate as well as kickboxing. Realizing he had fulfilled his professional baseball ambition, he rededicated his abilities to assisting people and families in managing their finances as Vice President of Investments for the Royal Bank of Canada in 2001.

Steve is the author of the motivational and inspirational book Shift, which offers concrete steps to transform your thinking and become successful. Lauren and John are Steve's two children.
