Ms. Allison serves on the National University Board of Trustees and is the Chairperson of The Oregon Lung Association's Reach the Summit campaign. She is also an accomplished novelist and devoted mother of two children. Stacy Allison began significant alpine climbing at the age of 21 and quickly became successful. Within a year, she ascended Alaska's Mt. McKinley, the highest point in North America, and was part of the first successful women's climb of Ama Dablam, Nepal's Matterhorn at 22,495 feet. These exploits laid the framework for far larger ones, such as climbing the highest mountain in Russia's Pamir Range and attempting Everest for the first time. Stacy Allison did not reach the top of Mt. Everest on her first try. Stacy later returned to Mt. Everest with the Northwest American Everest Expedition, and on September 29, 1988, Stacy Allison became the first American woman to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, the world's highest mountain at 29,028 feet. Stacy Allison went on to lead a successful K2 expedition, the world's second highest mountain and the most challenging peak to climb on Earth. Three of the seven-person team made it to the summit; following an accident on the third, Ms. Allison and the others descended, in keeping with her perspective of collaboration and leadership. Stacy believes that leaders should instill a desire for achievement in their team members, but only within the context of a team effort. One of the most important realizations, feelings, and memories is that when one team member succeeds, the entire team succeeds.
