Shibley Telhami is the Anwar Sadat Professor of Peace and Development at the University of Maryland and a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution's Saban Center. Prior to joining the University of Maryland, he taught at Cornell, Ohio State, and the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his PhD in political science.
Telhami has also been involved in international affairs, advising both Republican and Democratic governments on Middle Eastern issues. He worked as an advisor to the US Mission to the UN (1990-91), advised the State Department from 2009 to 2011, and was a member of the Iraq Study Group, among other things.
