The aerial robotics expert Sergei Lupashin saw the importance of the bird's-eye perspective for reporting the truth when he observed how a shot was taken from above during the widespread protests around the 2011 Russian parliamentary elections broke the media quiet on the issue.

However, even aerial images captured by uncrewed aerial vehicles are challenging to generate because operating a UAV securely is complex and because of usage restrictions imposed by the government. With his latest creation, the Fotokite, a tether-controlled, lightweight quadrocopter with a camera, Lupashin overcomes both challenges (for this demo, a dog leash).
