About Scott Steindorff

Scott Steindorff Biography

To create Stone Village Films, LLC, producer Scott Steindorff teamed with renowned Las Vegas businessmen Andrew Molasky, Robin Greenspun, and Danny Greenspun. Scott is dedicated to producing powerful, beautiful tales for the big screen as president and producer and ensuring that Stone Village continues to develop and expand while making a significant contribution to the entertainment industry. In Cartagena, Colombia, and London, Steindorff shot the adaption of the classic book LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA. The Oscar-winning screenwriter Ronald Harwood was chosen to adapt the book, and Mike Newell was chosen as the director. The cast included Javier Bardem, Benjamin Bratt, Liev Schreiber, Catalina Sandino Moreno, John Leguizamo, Fernanda Montenegro, and Hector Elizondo. It took Steindorff and Stone Village VP Dylan Russell three years to persuade Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez to license the film rights. New Line Cinema will distribute the movie in the United States on November 16, 2007. Scott is renowned in the business for obtaining and adapting literary works; his debut feature picture, THE HUMAN STAIN, from 2003, was based on a book by Philip Roth. Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman appeared in the Lakeshore Entertainment and Miramax film STAIN. With Paul Newman and producer Marc Platt, Scott's next endeavor was the critically acclaimed and award-winning HBO miniseries EMPIRE FALLS. Paul Newman, Ed Harris, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Helen Hunt, Aidan Quinn, and Joanne Woodward appeared in the Pulitzer Prize–winning novel by Richard Russo adaptation FALLS. The miniseries, directed by Fred Schepisi and shot in the fall of 2003, garnered 10 Emmy nominations when it debuted on HBO in May 2005. It also won the Golden Globe for Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television. The next movie was the contemporary fairy tale PENELOPE, which was made in London and starred Christina Ricci, James McAvoy, Catherine O'Hara, Peter Dinklage, and Reese Witherspoon. Summit Entertainment will distribute PENELOPE in February 2008. It was made in collaboration with Wetherspoons Type A Productions and funded by Stone Village and Grosvenor Park. According to literary convention, Steindorff is putting the finishing touches on the adaptation of T.C. Boyle's THE TORTILLA CURTAIN, based on Ralph Helfer's novel about the greatest elephant ever to live. The rights to Michael Connelly's New York Times bestseller THE LINCOLN LAWYER and Nicholas Sparks' TRUE BELIEVER were purchased by Steindorff in 2005. Moreover, Steindorff purchased the rights to A.M. Homes' book; THIS BOOK WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. Together with their literary adaptations, Stone Village has obtained the rights to recreate the Akira Kurosawa film IKIRU and the 1955 French classic heist flick RIFIFI. With book industry veteran Joel Gotler, Stone Village Pictures and businessman Glenn Schaeffer founded Intellectual Property Group (IPG), a literary management firm, in 2002. The business specializes in representing authors. Among many others, Michael Connelly, James Ellroy, Harlan Coben, Andre Dubus, Tim LaHaye, James Lee Burke, Richard Russo, and Alice McDermott are clients of IPG for film and TV rights. A non-profit organization devoted to the promotion, defense, and preservation of literature, Steindorff serves on the board of the International Institute of Modern Letters.
