Linda Cook Biography

As chief executive of the Edmonton library system, Linda is responsible for one of the busiest libraries in Canada, serving a population of nearly one million people in the capital region, with 16 locations, a staff of more than 500, and an operating budget of $30 million. For the past nine years, she has worked with the Edmonton Library Board of Trustees to develop and implement strategic plans that have included the development of new branches, the restoration of existing facilities, the formation of information and service networks, the enrichment of library collections, and enhanced training and development opportunities for staff.

While working in public library service, Linda continues to work in the academic field in support of her profession, including serving as adjunct professor in the Faculty of Education’s School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta. She sits on the executive of The Alberta Library, a consortium of more than 200 libraries in Alberta, as the representative for public libraries. As well, Linda sits on the board of the Downtown Business Association.

Linda currently is serving as President of the Canadian Library Association. She has also served on CLA’s Executive Council, as President of the Library Association of Alberta and Vice-Chair of the Canadian Urban Libraries Council.
