John M. Leonard Biography

He has held several positions in the same division, most recently, vice president, global pharmaceutical development. He assumed his current role in 2005. Before joining Abbott, Dr. Leonard was senior director for clinical research at G.H. Besselaar Associates in Princeton, N.J. He is board certified in internal medicine and is licensed to practice in Illinois and Maryland. After earning his medical degree at Johns Hopkins and completing his internship and residency at Stanford University Hospital, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular virology at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Leonard is a member of many professional groups and serves on PhRMA's science and regulatory affairs committees. Named 2004 Inventor of the Year by the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago, Dr. Leonard published more than 50 times and co-authored four books.
