Dr. Doug Evans Biography

Dr. Doug Evans is a tenured Professor of Prevention and Community Health and of Global Health in the School of Public Health and Health Services at George Washington University (GWU.) He has published widely on the effectiveness of social marketing and behavior change interventions in various subject areas and global settings. His research focuses on the use of branding strategies for health promotion and evaluation of new health technologies including mobile health. He recently published Public Health Branding and his second book Global Social Marketing Research is forthcoming (both from Oxford Press.)
Dr. Evans is currently a member of the Secretary of Health and Human Service’s National Advisory Committee for Healthy People 2020. He is also an expert panel member for the health marketing and health communication review of the Guide to Community Preventive Services conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Evans consults on social marketing programs in Africa Asia and Eastern Europe and former Soviet states in collaboration with NGOs USAID and World Bank funded programs.
Dr. Evans currently is Principal Investigator (PI) of a grant from the Department of Defense to evaluate the text4baby mobile health intervention. He is also PI of a 5-year grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to evaluate parent-child connectedness strategies to prevent repeat teen pregnancy in the District of Columbia.
