David Sacks Biography

David is the Founder and CEO of Yammer Inc., the leading real-time communication platform for companies, groups and organizations worldwide. Yammer launch in September of 2008 and has now surpassed the 50,000 networks mark.

Prior to Yammer, David was involved in the internet space for ten years as an entrepreneur, executive and investor, starting with PayPal in 1999. David was PayPal's Chief Operating Officer and product leader, taking the company from startup to IPO and eventual sale to eBay for $1.5 billion.

Subsequently, he founded Geni.com, which is creating a family tree of the whole world, enabling millions of family members to connect, share, and preserve their lives. He also produced and financed the movie "Thank You For Smoking". He has a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

In November 2012, Geni was acquired by MyHeritage to create the most complete offering in the genealogy space. I currently serve on the board of MyHeritage. Producer Thank You For Smoking 2003 – 2006 (3 years) Produced and financed the independent film THANK YOU FOR SMOKING, which was acquired and distributed by Fox Searchlight. Among other honors, the film was nominated for Best Picture in the comedy/musical category at the 2006 Golden Globes. PayPalCOO PayPal 1999 – 2002 (3 years) As Chief Operating Officer and PayPal's product leader, managed 700 employees, and built many of our key teams.

I was responsible for product management and design, sales and marketing, business development, international, customer service, fraud operations, and human resources functions at PayPal.

During my tenure, we grew payment volume from $0 to $500 million/month and revenue from $0 to $240 million/year. We beat eBay on its own platform, winning the auction payments space. We became the world's #1 financial website, from nothing. We introduced business accounts and made our users pay. We expanded into multiple currencies and over 80 countries. Finally, we successfully IPO'd and became a public company, before ultimately selling to eBay for $1.5 billion.
