She is best known for her role in This Is Us as Kate Pearson, My Name Is Earl as Chunk, and American Horror Story: Freak Show as Barbara/Ima Wiggles.

Her performance in This Is Us earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film at 74th Golden Globe Awards. Metz is also a singer in her band Chrissy and The Vapors.
