Cherie Blair Biography

Cherie Blair was born in Bury in 1954 but relocated to Liverpool when she was quite young. She attended the London School of Economics to study law, becoming the first member of her family to do so. She was called to the Bar in 1976 and became a Queen's Counsel in 1995. She is one of the founding members of Matrix Chambers. She is both a part-time judge and a qualified mediator, as Recorders are known. Tony Blair was a fellow trainee in her first chambers. The couple married in 1980 and have four children, the youngest of whom, Leo, is the first kid born to a sitting Prime Minister in well than a century. Cherie is an ardent advocate of equality and human rights problems, in addition to working for human rights in her professional position. She has talked about these topics and the need for greater work/life balance for both men and women all around the world. Mrs. Blair's autobiography, "Speaking for Myself," was released in 2008. Cherie founded the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women later that year. She thinks that by empowering and supporting women all over the world, they would be able to play a bigger part in their economies and cultures. The Foundation assists women in Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East in generating their own income and establishing programs that help them become successful and self-sufficient entrepreneurs. Cherie is also associated with around 20 charities, with a focus on those that help women, children, and those that are situated on Merseyside. She is the Honorary Vice President of Barnados, the President of the Loomba Foundation, the Patron of Scope, and the Patron of other organizations, including Breast Cancer Care. She was a London 2012 Ambassador. Cherie has been a Labour Party member since she was 16 years old. Cherie received a CBE in the 2013 New Year's Honours List for her contributions to women's issues and charity in the UK and abroad.
