He is 18 years old. Amr's journey has been anything but ordinary. During the Egyptian revolution of 2011, his school was shut down. Cut off, alone, he had to study for his exams in the local library - driven only by a deep passion for learning and science. While his imagination soared, he never dreamt that his ideas would ever follow. That was until the day, last year, when, while browsing the web, he discovered YouTube Space Lab - a global competition challenging students to design an experiment for space. Amr seized the opportunity - beating thousands to impress a panel of world-renowned judges. This summer, his experiment will be packed on a rocket and sent 250 miles into space to be performed by an astronaut on board the International Space Station and streamed lived on YouTube. The world will be watching. Amr thinks that no one is too young to be inspired by space - and believes passionately in the power of the internet to inspire the next generation of scientists in Egypt and beyond. As for his exams, he didn’t do too badly at all - he achieved another life dream, winning a place at Stanford.
